The NFR is changing how it pays each round for 2026. Go-rounds now pay eight places instead of six, a change reported by Roundtable Sports after an announcement by the NFR Committee.

What's changing

  • More checks: seventh and eighth place now get paid, and more than half of each event's field is guaranteed a check each night.
  • Bigger middle: fourth through sixth place see their payoffs rise.
  • Smaller top: the leading places give up some money to pay for that. First place is worth almost $34,000.
  • Round total: nearly $130,000 per round, with about $3,000 for eighth.

What about the total purse?

KBHB reported a record total of $14,270,736 for 2026, which includes $1.2 million in qualification bonuses at $10,000 per contestant. We haven't seen that exact figure in an official breakdown, so treat it as reported.

What it means for the title race

Paying more places rewards consistency. A contestant who places sixth or seventh most nights can now bank real money, while a single big round win counts for slightly less than before. It may also make it harder for a contestant far back in the standings to catch the leader with one hot streak. We'll see how it plays out from Round 1 on December 3.
